The Objectives of the institute are:
- To be a platform for training
- Information resource
- Research
- Consultancy
- Policy Workshops
- Advisory support for overall urban development in Karnataka and
- For effective preparation and implementation of urban development programmes and projects in particular.
The Institute plans and executes training programmes in consultation with various departments, agencieis, authorities and stakeholders of the urban sector. The training programmes are based on the training needs of the Urban Local Bodies, Urban Development Agencies within the context of Capacity Building and Training policy of the State Government. The training programmes are organised at Mysore, District, Town and Community levels. The SIUD has been providing professional support to the urban development department, Govt. of Karnataka on policy decisions in the matters concerning ULBs.
